JEDDAH: The Saudi government has welcomed the Gulf Cooperation Council’s proposals to fight terrorist groups that are attempting to undermine the region’s security and social fabric.

This comes in the wake of an extraordinary meeting held by the GCC’s interior ministers in Kuwait City last week, where the participants condemned the recent bombing of the Imam Al-Sadeq Mosque in Kuwait.
Minister of Culture and Information Adel Al-Toraifi said the country’s Cabinet ministers, at their meeting at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah on Monday, also condemned the series of attacks on checkpoints in the Sinai Peninsula, and sent their condolences to the people of Egypt.
Al-Toraifi said the Council of Ministers also reviewed several domestic issues. They thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for distributing SR1.8 billion to citizens at the start of Ramadan, apart from the normal Zakat distribution.
The ministers also expressed their condolences to the king and other members of the royal family on the death of Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed bin Jelawi Al-Saud, the governor of the Northern Borders region.
Al-Toraifi said the Council of Ministers also discussed various other issues and approved the final account of the King Fahd National Library for 2013/2014.
The Cabinet decided that the Control and Investigation Board should follow up on unsolved cases that occurred before 2012, which should be referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution if necessary. The Cabinet also approved several appointments at ranks 14 and 15.
