RIYADH: Nine people were killed and 11 injured in five road accidents between Thursday and Saturday last week.

Abdullah Al-Mirbaidh, Red Crescent spokesman in the capital, said that ambulance and aircraft teams were sent to the accident spots to provide assistance.

On Thursday, one person died and two were injured due to a car collision at a traffic light in the eastern part of the capital. In another incident on the same day, two were seriously injured in a car collision along the Makkah road, and were admitted to hospital.

Two of a family were killed on a bridge in Riyadh province on Friday. On the same day, an accident along Rimah Road north of Riyadh claimed three lives and injured five. All those killed were from the same family. On Dawadmi Road, three people died and two were injured when two cars collided.

On Saturday, another collision along the Makkah road left four people injured.

Al-Mirbaidh urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, adding that only last Sunday five people also died and 18 were injured in road accidents.

He was referring to three separate incidents on Al-Hair Road, Asheerah Road and in Al-Humaiyat area of Riyadh region.
