Jeddah police has arrested an Arab expatriate for theft and a gang for robbing bank clients.

The Arab was accused of stealing SR472,000 from the treasury of the business enterprise for which he works.

Makkah police spokesman Aati bin Attia Al-Qurashi said Jeddah’s Sharafiyah police received a complaint on Monday that an employee in one of the commercial establishments had embezzled money.

Al-Qurashi said that policemen caught the 40-year-old suspect who turned out to be an Arab national in the course of their investigation..

In another case, the investigation and criminal research unit at the Jeddah police nabbed a gang that had been stealing money from bank clients.

A spokesperson for the Makkah police said that three people comprising an Arab and two Africans stole large amounts of money from bank clients, “The gang was involved in committing six similar crimes during the current month in several neighborhoods in Jeddah,” the spokesperson said.

Al-Qurashi said that the accused were being held for investigation so as to find out the extent of their involvement in other criminal cases, and will be referred to the concerned authorities upon completion of the investigation.
