JEDDAH: The Shoura Council will next Monday discuss launching awareness programs to prevent Saudis from misbehaving abroad and damaging the nation’s reputation.

The plan is likely to include coordination between the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, education, and culture and information, according to a media report on Friday.

Meanwhile, also during its 11th regular session next Monday, the Shoura will vote on a memorandum of understanding between the General Presidency of Youth Welfare and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Science and Technology in Japan, after a briefing from the committee on social, family and youth affairs.

The Shoura will also vote on the recommendations of the committee on water, agriculture and the environment regarding the annual report of the Saudi Grains Organization for the 2014/2015 financial year, after a briefing from the committee.

The committee on Islamic and judicial affairs will share its views on suggestions and queries put forward by members regarding the annual report of the General Presidency for the Two Holy Mosques for the 2014/2015 financial year.

The committee, in one of its recommendations to be voted on by the Shoura, called for a plan to deal with the increasing number of Umrah pilgrims, particularly after the completion of the expansion projects.

In addition, the Shoura will discuss the report of the committee on heath regarding the annual report of King Khaled Specialist Eye Hospital for the 2014/2015 financial year.

The most notable recommendations include increasing its capacity for patients and visitors, and to expand external clinics. The committee also recommended that the hospital be given flexibility to offer incentives so that it can attract and retain staff.

During its 12th regular session on Tuesday, the Shoura will discuss the report of the committee on foreign affairs about the annual performance of the ministry for the 2014/2015 financial year.

The report includes six recommendations, including greater coordination between it and the ministries of interior, education, culture and information, and Islamic affairs, endowments, call and guidance, to establish a strategy to fight terrorism and correct stereotypes about the Kingdom.

The council will also vote on earlier recommendations regarding the annual performance report of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, which includes helping it develop patient services.

There would also be a vote on plans, in coordination with the Education Ministry, to provide scholarships for research students linked to the center, as part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Foreign Scholarship Program.
