RIYADH: For businesses in Saudi Arabia and around the world, quality control is becoming an increasingly important practice to ensure maximal operation efficiency and the delivery of high-quality products to the public.

Quality control is a process whereby entities review the quality of all factors involved in production, which includes the inspection of products or services visually and in other ways before the product is presented to potential customers.

Due to the enormous socio-economic development in Saudi Arabia in recent times, quality control has become an essential part of all business activities and begun to be applied in many sectors such as health care facilities, factories, and even restaurants.

The Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) recently organized information sessions about how to apply quality control within facilities to increase awareness about the importance of quality and its role in developing and improving the facilities and, in the long run, to help them grow and compete.

Omar Khalid, who is the food and beverage director at a restaurant, spoke to Arab News about applying quality control approaches in his work.

“It is a matter of team work where everyone actively participates to achieve customer satisfaction.

This requires continuous training for our staff in order to meet the required standards related to the restaurant industry,” he said.

He noted that his restaurant, like others, is beginning to apply the idea of “open kitchen,” whereby customers can see what the chefs are doing and how the food is cooked, as well as the manner in which hygiene standards are strictly observed.

Khalid said that they are also applying one of the latest concepts which is termed “the happy employee.” Speaking about the technique, he said: “If we create good working conditions for our employees, they will feel more loyal in their work and will become more productive in providing their customers with the utmost satisfaction.”

Dr. Nagwa Mousa, a medical expert and a quality consultant, said that by adopting and applying quality control approaches in all business activities, we are entering into a new era wherein the small details matter. He said that this will be positively reflected in the quality of products and services provided to customers, and will be for their benefit.
