RIYADH: At least 28,456 students have graduated from communications and electronics courses during the last five years, the General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training (GOTVT) announced on Saturday. “The number includes the 6,000 students who graduated last year from technical institutions as well as colleges of communication and information technology,” Fahd Al-Otaibi, GOTVT spokesman, said in a statement.
He said that “these students are happy over their training since they can now have the chance to work and make a future.” Al-Otaibi said that the Riyadh region had the highest number of graduates at 6,054, followed by Makkah (5,435), Eastern Province (5,032), Asir (2,634) and Qassim (2,413).
The spokesman said that the remaining 6,888 were distributed among the rest of the Kingdom, adding that more students are expected to enroll in communications and electronics courses since these are in demand at present. He pointed out that Saudis who are eligible to work in the field of maintenance and sale of mobile phones is not limited to those who have only graduated from technical colleges and colleges of communication and technology.
He added that the GOTVT follows the decision of the Ministry of Labor by providing short and specialized training programs in basic maintenance for mobile phones and sales skills, customer service and advanced mobile phone maintenance.
“So far, 21,700 students have graduated from short and specialized training programs in basic maintenance of mobile phones,” Al-Otaibi said.
He said the organization has more than 100 colleges and technical institutes located all over the Kingdom.
He also said that modules are provided for short training programs in specialized communications as well as work in the areas of maintenance and sale of mobile phones.
