The Dhahran police endorsed on Monday the Filipino household service worker (HSW) who had run away to the Saudi Social Welfare Administration (SWA) in Dammam after conducting a probe.

“The employer and a SWA representative were requested to go to the police station in Dhahran regarding the case,” Labor Attache Alex Padaen of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in the Eastern Region (POLO-ERO) told Arab News on Tuesday.

Padaen, a lawyer who had earlier been posted in Jeddah, said the employer was angry at first, but eventually relented and agreed to give an exit visa.

The HSW ran away from her employer’s house while the baby girl under her care was sleeping. She had earlier told Arab News that the baby girl was sleeping with a much older sister when she left.

Padaen added that the HSW, who comes from the province of Isabela, northeast of Manila, is “expected to be repatriated any day now.”

“The local recruitment agency in the Kingdom, Al-Basha Corporation, has provided a one-way ticket to the Philippines for the worker,” Padaen told Arab News from the POLO-ERO office in Alkhobar.

The Al-Basha Corporation, which is based in the Kingdom, is the counterpart agency of Al-Rafidain, which recruited the 27-year-old HSW in the Philippines.

The HSW said she escaped because she could not cope with the workload, which included cleaning a three-story house, washing, cooking and babysitting.
