JEDDAH: Media professionals across the country mourned the loss of well-known journalist Majed Al-Shibl, who passed away Wednesday night at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh after a 17-year battle with illness.
“My teacher Majid Al-Shibl, is a voice not to be forgotten, an image not to disappear, and a name engraved on the pages of Arab media,” said Channel 1 broadcaster Hamed Al-Ghamdi.
Abdulaziz Al-Eid, one of the top broadcasters and acting director of the Saudi Cultural Channel, also tweeted his condolences on Twitter. “We lost a poet and broadcaster, who entertained and enjoyed reciting poetry.”
“May Majed Al-Shibl’s soul rest in peace. He was one of the pioneers and among the most beautiful and appreciated souls to sit behind the microphone and television camera,” tweeted Khaled Al-Shahwan, a broadcaster and media consultant.
Islamic scholar Mohsin Shaikh Al-Hassan, also a TV host and a poet, said that “he was a great colleague. I prepared three programs for him which he presented. These were entitled Balance, Letters, and King Fahd in Poetry. He presented them on Channel 1 Saudi TV,” he said.
Majid Jawharji, Al-Shibl’s grandson, described how he suffered from dementia and Alzheimer’s and that he was not able to walk or move over the past three years.
