JEDDAH: Several young Saudi men have been using Snapchat over the past few days to voice their support for the Kingdom’s fight against terrorism including the recent execution of 47 convicted terrorists.

Many said that citizens in the Kingdom were aware of the dangers of extremism, while others poked fun at Iran for opposing decisions taken by the country’s judiciary, a local publication reported on Tuesday.

Rakan Al-Suwaidi posted 10 messages supporting the decision to execute the terrorists and said young people should be wary of extremist groups trying to recruit them. Some young people are vulnerable and ill informed, he said.

Ibrahim Mubaraki said young people were becoming more aware of the way terrorist groups try to manipulate their emotions.

Those who break the country’s laws should meet the same fate as those recently executed, he said.

Mohammad Al-Aklabi said the courts had taken the correct decision because terrorists were trying to destroy the country and its resources. Citizens are backing the government’s fight, he said.

Areej Jalal criticized Iran for what he described as its support of terrorism. Young Saudis have shown that they are willing to stand up and protect the country, and to use social media to create awareness of the dangers of extremist groups.

Mohammad Al-Hakami said the courts had taken the correct decision, which was in line with Islamic law. It showed that the country’s judiciary was independent, he said.
