MAKKAH: Makkah police spokesman Col. Atti Al-Qurashi said Wednesday that the police in Taif have arrested a number of Saudis aged in their thirties for assaulting the guard of a girls school, as well as a representative of the education department in the province, a local publication reported.

Al-Qurashi said that two of the men detained have been booked on charges of severely injuring the school guard and the representative who had to be hospitalized.

Eight young men attacked the guard in Sudrah School in Taif over a previous dispute between the relatives of the two parties, the guard and the young men who belong to two different tribes. At the time of the attack, the representative of the education department in Taif happened to be at the scene.

The young men attacked the guard while he was on duty with sticks and other weapons, causing injuries to his head, face and back. The education representative was also hit and injured on his head and hand and sustained bruises to his body.

The two injured men were moved to hospital and the case was referred to the relevant agencies.
