JEDDAH: Women visitors will have the privilege of special timings at licensed museums, which have also been allowed to charge a nominal entry fee after seeking an approval from the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH).

The commission has also set out different terms and conditions for the museums, local media reported Sunday.

The museums are to stay open for public from 9 a.m. to noon and from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The museums are not to be named after any prophet, caliph, king or any synonym for the Two Holy Mosques or the holy sites.

The commission stipulated that the space of one hall should be 40 square meters and the ceiling not less than three meters high. Halls should have exhibition cabinets or hangers. There should be sufficient and suitable lighting, in addition to an emergency exit and suitable temperature and humidity levels maintained for the exhibits.

The museums are to be classified into three categories — A, B and C — according to the condition of the building, supporting building, location, introduction, exhibits, exhibition cabinets, maintenance, hygiene, security, safety and technology.
