JEDDAH: Operations and medical procedures that are not urgent have been put on hold in the 10 days of Ramadan, and will resume after the Eid vacation ends, the Jeddah Health Department has said.

However, the emergency departments at all the hospitals will work around the clock and normal cases will be attended to for diagnosis in clinics, the department was quoted as saying by local media.

Nasser Al-Juhani, director general of Al-Thaghar Hospital here, said that many medical procedures can be postponed until after Eid vacation such as cosmetic surgeries.

Dr. Yasser Mazruie, an eye consultant, said some operations can be deferred until after Eid, such as vision correction operations, laser surgeries, polyps, inflammation of gallbladder and other non-life-threatening operations.

He said cases like appendectomies, acute bleeding resulting from accidents and heart attacks will be attended as they need immediate intervention.

“Many people have already postponed non-urgent medical procedures themselves until after Eid,” Mazruie added.
