DAMMAM: Development work on roads and traffic detours in Dammam and Alkhobar cause many traffic accidents and delays for commuters, especially during morning and peak hours.

Major roads are undergoing repairs in the two cities causing citizens and expatriates, working in the public and private sectors, hardships on a daily basis.

Chaos due to traffic bottlenecks can also be seen on busy roads such as King Saud, King Fahd and Prince Naif streets in Dammam and King Abdulaziz, Hamoud and Pepsi streets in Alkhobar.

A number of roads have been closed without prior information and traffic is being diverted resulting in delays for the officials and other office goers.

Traffic snags are acute during school hours.

Meanwhile, Eastern Province Mayor Fahad Al-Jubeir said more than SR1billion has been allocated for the current fiscal year for infrastructure development projects in Dammam.

He said studies are underway for the construction of 29 intersections, more than half of them having been implemented.

He said the budget allocation is being used for constructing better streets and main roads, development of residential plots and neighborhoods, construction of squares and intersection bridges, overpasses and tunnels at intersections.
