JEDDAH: The Personal Status Court in Jeddah has ordered a wealthy citizen to pay his wife SR2.8 million for failing to support her and his son for 32 years.
According to a press report on Tuesday, the man stopped supporting his wife in 1983 shortly after she gave birth to their son.
The woman filed the case at the court last year, seeking compensation, and provided two witnesses and supporting documentation from the Taif court about her husband’s behavior.
When the court contacted various parties, it was discovered her husband earned nearly SR80,000 a month.
The judge then ruled that he had to pay his wife for 384 months, calculated at SR4,000 a month.
He was also ordered to pay a further 336 months for his son’s support, calculated at SR4,000 a month, and SR5,000 a month in future.
He would have to make double payments on each of the two Eid vacations.
