MADINAH: The Madinah Traffic Department has warned against marriage celebrations on public roads and said anyone involved in such activities will be penalised with fines ranging from SR300 to SR500, depending on the violation involved.

Traffic Department Director Brig. Nawah Al-Ahmadi said that marriage ceremonies and those of football celebrations on roads are violations which hinder traffic. He said that highway patrols are stopping violators and issuing them traffic tickets.

He said such behavior on roads is unacceptable and creates obstructions on public highways which goes against the interests of other vehicles and threatens vital activities such as moving patients to hospitals and delaying passengers traveling to airports.

Al-Ahmadi said that driving more than the speed limit in the left lane is a violation of the Traffic Law. The penalty for that offense is SR100, he said, adding that speed limits are specified for different lanes. The right lane is for trucks and vehicles which go at a slower pace, the left middle lane is for regular vehicles at medium speed while the far-left lane is for other vehicles at normal speed and for emergencies.
