A 16-year-old Saudi student was killed in a scuffle with other students at a school in Jeddah on Monday.

“The student was involved in a fight with other students which turned nasty. He was brought to King Abdulaziz Hospital but was pronounced dead upon his arrival,” said Ministry of Education spokesman, Abdul Majeed Al Ghamdi in Jeddah.

The incident occurred in a middle school located in south Jeddah. A probe is under way to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, Ghamdi added in a statement.

Jeddah Police said that it had received information about the incident and police patrols were rushed to the site where they found that a Saudi student had died as a result of a fight with fellow students.

“We have detained three students and are conducting an investigation,” said Col. Aati Al-Quraishi, spokesperson of Jeddah Police.

In another development, Jeddah Police said they had arrested a car thief of Asian origin who had stolen 37 cars from parking lots and other public places.

Col. Al-Quraishi has urged people to exercise caution when parking their vehicles outside commercial establishments and in parking lots.
