Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has issued a royal decree approving the new students evaluation bylaws prepared by the Higher Committee for Educational Policy in line with the modern norms of evaluation. The new bylaws are consistent with previous bylaws issued in 2005, the SPA reported on Friday.

According to the new bylaws, general standards will be a major factor in the evaluation of a student’s performance and a teacher will be the only one to decide the promotion of a student to a higher class at the primary level.

The new bylaws cancel the system of evaluating educational performance on the basis of success in the intermediate and secondary classes.

The new regulation provides for the adoption of certain standards of evaluation at the primary level, and the inclusion of student’s transfer from a difficult subject at the secondary level, in addition to an emphasis on multiple tools for evaluation.

The new bylaw also stipulates that the calculation of cumulative average from the beginning of the study in secondary schools with the condition that a student obtains 20 percent marks to clear a subject. In the case of intermediate schools, a student has to score 20 percent marks in the second semester to clear a subject.

Minister of Education Prince Khaled Al-Faisal said the continuation of the push for the development of education with special stress on quality is essential to keep pace with the global advancement in education.
