Turkmenistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia are at an all-time high in the modern era, the country’s envoy said here on Tuesday.

Ambassador Nazarkuly Shakuliyev said current ties are based on centuries of contact between the people of the Arabian Peninsula and Central Asia.

Speaking at celebrations of the country’s national day, which falls on Oct. 27, Shakuliyev wished Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, good health and long lives.

He said the history of constructive cooperation between Turkmenistan and Saudi Arabia began on Feb. 22, 1992, when the two nations established diplomatic relations.

Shakuliyev said President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Saudi Arabia in April 2007 and identified priority areas of cooperation.
