The Jeddah Municipality has raided a confectionery that was found to be in contravention of health regulations. Sami Nawar, Jeddah Municipality’s media manager, said in a statement that the raid was conducted on a confectionery manufacturing unit that produces sweets, cakes and cookies in the western Baghdadia area of the city.

The municipality’s public health patrolling teams monitored the origin of sweets being delivered to shops. Nawar said the municipality destroyed 2 tons of ingredients meant for use in making cakes and cookies.

He said that they found several ingredients that were unfit for human consumption and a manufacturing site that failed to meet basic hygiene standards.

In addition, the site was found to use artificial coloring that is not sanctioned for use in food.

Nawar said the municipality also raided the area under the King Fahd overpass (also known as Sitteen Street), where illegal expatriate workers were found to be washing cars.
