RIYADH: The Ministry of Housing has officially opened a Twitter account in connection with imposition of fee on white land or vacant plots of land being held up by investors in urban areas.
“The ministry is also expected to launch an online portal to allow a number of procedures and services,” an online newspaper said, quoting sources, on Friday.
The ministry's move comes in anticipation of the approval of white land fee by the Cabinet. The issued will be studied by the Council of Ministers and submitted to the secretariat for inclusion in the Shoura Council agenda for approval.
The application of the white land fee system is expected to be formally introduced in the Holy Month of Ramadan, following the issuance of a royal decree six months ago.
Members of the public are waiting for the announcement of the cities covered by the first phase of the white land fee system.
The white land fee system has been designed to increase the supply of undeveloped land to achieve a balance between supply and demand and the provision of residential land at reasonable prices.
“The white land fee system also ensures fair competition and is against monopoly,” the report added.
The program imposes an annual fee on white land owned by one or more persons from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), with an increase of 2.5 percent of the actual value of the land.
“The ministry will use the income to spend on housing and infrastructure projects,” the report said.
