JEDDAH: Madinah is once again facing water crisis, with many neighborhoods suffering cuts and interruptions in the water supply since last week.

Many citizens have complained against the “poor management” of water in the region, where the demand shoots up during vacations and seasonal holidays, local media reported on Sunday.

The citizens said that Madinah is witnessing an increased growth rate in its population and urban expansion, which is leading to an increased demand for water.

The residents of neighborhoods including Albadrani, Alfaisal, Airport Road, Qabaa and Alawali have demanded that water be supplied to their house reservoirs so that they are not forced to stand in queues for long hours for the water tank.

Hasan Alwishi, a resident of Madinah, described the water crisis in the city as a never-ending problem.

“We suffer from perpetual water cuts and are forced to buy water supplied by tanks to meet our needs,” he was quoted as saying.

Saad Alofi, another resident, said: “Sometimes, water supplies are cut off for more than three weeks. Those who live in the new properties have large in-ground reservoirs so they do not face this problem.”

He also demanded that the authorities should re-structure the “shifts system.”

Meanwhile, the general directorate for water said on its Twitter account that water distribution shifts’ system is continuing according to the population density.
