AL-BAHA: A female citizen complained against a doctor at King Fahd Hospital in Al-Baha for providing the wrong diagnosis for her condition which exposed her life to danger.

Eman Al-Zahrani said she has kidney failure and has to go through dialysis on a regular basis. She suffers from a swollen vein every time she undergoes the procedure to stabilize her condition.

She entered the kidney unit at King Fahd Hospital and a Filipino nurse inserted a tube in her hand and had to exert pressure to stop the bleeding. But the nurse applied too much pressure which stopped the bleeding but caused the swelling of the vein.

A consultant was called in who in turn called a cardiologist who said the vein had swollen too much and surgery was needed at once to correct the problem.

The patient refused to have the surgery and demanded to be transferred to King Faisal Specialty Hospital in Jeddah. She said the treating doctor at King Faisal hospital confirmed a wrong diagnosis and said the swelling was normal and there was no need for an operation but the nurse had inserted the needle wrongly which caused too much swelling, adding that her life was under threat because of this swelling.

She went back to King Fahd Hospital with a report that revealed her condition but the doctor was angry and threw her out of his clinic. When she went back for dialysis the hospital refused to admit her and told her she needed surgery, but when she went back again at a later time they said she didn’t need surgery.

The press spokesman for Al-Baha health affairs directorate, Mohammad Al Suleiman, said the woman’s complaint has been referred to King Fahd Hospital in Baha but they have yet to receive the reply.
