JEDDAH: The Specialized Criminal Court has issued the death sentence against the leader of a terrorist cell involved in the 2003 Yanbu terror attack which killed six people, including a security man, and injured many.
A group of terrorists attacked expatriates working for the Saudi Yanbu Petrochemical Company (Yanpet), killing a security man and five workers, including two Americans, two British and an Australian. A total of 25 people, including citizens and residents, were injured. Four terrorists were also killed.
A ruling was issued about two years ago, but was overruled by the Appeal Court. However, the accused was tried again and his involvement in making explosives and planning the terror attack was proved.
The convict was charged with many offenses, including joining terrorist cell members in the Yanbu incident, stealing chemical items from a school lab where he was working, transporting a machine gun, ammunitions and chemical items to Yanbu and delivering them to one person involved in the terrorist attack and renting an apartment for one of the terrorists who carried out the terror act on his request.
He was also charged with transferring money illegally to a person in Yemen on the request of one of the Yanbu attackers and receiving money from one of the perpetrators to buy elbows, which were used in the manufacture of explosives.
