JEDDAH: A filmed kidnapping incident has shown the way a number of wanted persons have forced other young men to work with them and attack police.

The video showed a group of armed men kidnapping a young man from Tarut Island and taking him to a location between Al-Awamiyah and Qudaih. They forced him to say some things while he was being filmed and then the film was posted on social media.

Some sources said that the young man who was kidnapped had been previously arrested but had been released from prison. He was on the list of 23 wanted men who surrendered himself to the authorities here and was in custody for nine months. When he was released, he continued his life but was always under threat from other wanted people who tried to coerce him into rejoining them. He refused.

The young man appeared in two videos, each of a minute's duration. The first video showed him being beaten by the kidnappers and the second showed him making what appeared to be a confession that he had cooperated with the security forces. A third video emerged showing him in the hospital describing the torture and beating he was subjected to.

The sources said the group that kidnapped the young man consisted of 12 though he identified only three.

Eastern Province police spokesman Col. Ziyad Al-Ruqaiti said earlier that around noon on Friday, the police station in Qatif received a report from Qatif Central Hospital stating that a man in his thirties had been treated for being shot in his foot and sustaining further bodily injuries.
