LONDON: Blackburn global adviser Shebby Singh has revealed he is hopeful the Championship club’s Indian owners will appoint a new manager on New Year’s Day.
Singh has been leading Blackburn’s search for a new boss following the decision to sack Henning Berg last week just 57 days into the former Manchester United defender’s reign at Ewood Park.
Blackburn ended a dismal 2012, which included their relegation from the Premier League, on a more upbeat note by beating Barnsley 3-1 at Oakwell on Saturday.
But, although reserve team manager Gary Bowyer is set to continue in temporary charge for the New Year’s Day visit of Nottingham Forest, Singh is confident a new boss could be in charge in time for the FA Cup third round tie against Bristol City this weekend.
Fans reacted angrily to reports that Singh was lining up former Aston Villa caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald and relatively unknown coach Judan Ali as part of the team to replace Berg and his outgoing backroom staff.
However, Singh, a former Malaysia international, is confident Venky’s, the poultry firm that owner Blavkburn, are on the verge of making an appointment to transform the club’s fortunes.
“I have made my submissions to my bosses. They will receive it, then we will talk about it,” Singh told the Lancashire Telegraph.
“We would like to make an appointment on New Year’s Day to start the new year in the right way and to see the back of a horrible 2012.”
