SYDNEY: Adam Scott has opted against competing at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in August.

The 2013 Masters champion issued a statement, published by the PGA of Australia on Wednesday, confirming he’d be unavailable for golf’s return to the Olympics for the first time since 1904.

The No. 7-ranked Scott says his decision “has been taken as a result of an extremely busy playing schedule around the time of the Olympics and other commitments, both personal and professional.”

He said he’d informed Australian captain Ian-Baker-Finch and other officials who “are understanding of my position.”

Baker-Finch last month told a Melbourne radio station that he thought both No. 1-ranked Jason Day and Scott were excited about representing Australia at the Olympics.

Willett joins PGA Tour after Masters triumph

Newly crowned Masters champion Danny Willett has joined the PGA Tour following his shock victory at Augusta, it was announced on Monday.

The 28-year-old Englishman has been given a five-year exemption which will allow him to play on the tour until the 2020-21 season, the PGA tour said in a statement.

The world No. 9 was also handed 600 ranking points in the FedExCup for his Masters triumph earlier this month.

Willett needs to finish in the top 125 in the FedExCup standings to gain entry to the lucrative end-of-season FedExCup Playoffs.

Willett was ranked outside the top 100 as recently as November 2014 but on April 10 became the first Briton since Nick Faldo in 1996 to win the green jacket.

Willett was a surprise victor on the final day in Augusta, snatching the title after a spectacular collapse by defending champion Jordan Spieth on the back nine.
