RIYADH: The first Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Inter-school Table Tennis tournament for Indian schools in the Kingdom successfully concluded here recently.

Amaan ur Rahman of New Middle East International School (NMEIS), who won three titles in the tournament emerged overall champion while Zainab Ahmed of International Indian School Dammam (IISD) was runner-up after winning two titles.

Zia Ul Rahman, president of CBSE Table Tennis tourney, Saudi Chapter said on Thursday that the tournament was organized by NMEIS table tennis academy under the guidance of players from the different CBSE affiliated schools across the Kingdom.

Hifzur Rahman, spokesman, Indian embassy, and also the observer of Indian schools in Kingdom, was the chief guest at the final event.

Speaking on the occasion Rahman applauded the progress made by CBSE schools in the table tennis and commended their achievements in recent times.

He directed the CBSE schools administrators to include the CBSE TT ranking tournaments in the annual calendar and also advised the school administration to have a separate budget for these ranking tournaments.

Earlier, in her welcome address Tabassum Farooqi, principal of NMEIS said that this maiden tournament along with the other ranking tournaments to follow this year aims to identify the best players among CBSE schools in the Kingdomin, who will represent CBSE Saudi chapter in the open TT nationals in the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) calendar for 2015-16.

Shaukhat Parvez, principal of International Indian School Riyadh (IISR) and an advisory committee member of CBSE Table Tennis, Saudi chapter, promised full support from his school to the ranking tournaments.

He said participation in TTFI national tournament in India is a matter of pride for the CBSE schools in KSA.

He also proposed that one CBSE affiliated school from each region in the Kingdom should take up the responsibility to conduct a ranking tournament during the year.

There are 10 Indian schools run by embassy in the Kingdom, besides, there are other CBSE affiliated schools like Delhi Public School (DPS).
