RIYADH: Hyejin Byoun and Susan Tessier put together a round to remember and scored a historic victory in the Royal Air Maroc Open Golf Tournament 2015 at Dirab Golf & Country Club on Saturday.

On a windless sun splashed day, Korean Byoun and Tessier, a Canadian national, with a team handicap of 7, shot a sparkling net score of 12-under 60 to become the first-ever ladies team to win a Texas Scramble event in the history of one of the Kingdom's premier golf clubs.

"We're hot. We played well together , had fun and laughed a lot," said Tessier.

Indeed, this pair had the last laugh and was the last one standing in a full field of 120 players and 30 teams that teed it up for the tournament that marked the return of Royal Air Maroc as corporate sponsor/partner at Dirab, where the official Moroccan flag carrier last sponsored a tournament in 2009.

For their feat, Byoun and Tessier each received a return air ticket to Casablanca from Royal Air Maroc in addition to their trophies.

Enjoying a good course management and superb putting, Byoun and Tessier, who are both dependents of their husbands, mixed seven birdies and two bogeys in a gross 67 (31-36).

They birdied the first four holes on the back nine and gained a further shot on No. 6. On the back nine, Tessier hit her 3 rescue club to six inches of the cup on the par 3 16 th hole and Byoun made the putt for another birdie. The pair then used Byoun's drive and Susan's second shot that landed 7 feet of the pin before the Korean hotshot, who has had a golfing career in Doha, before moving to Riyadh rolled in the birdie putt on 17.

The only blots in an otherwise immaculate display was when they went up and down on 10 and two-putted for bogey. Then on 14 they missed the green on their drive, chipped and two putted to go plus 1 on the hole.

The next three places were decided on countback in this two ball Texas Scramble format competition where bogey is not an option and par or better is the norm to have any chance at victory.

The top Filipino team of Alex Arellano and Resty Sibug grabbed second place after shooting a bogeyless round of 67 that contained five birdies all courtesy of hot putting Arellano.

Another Filipino pair and Alinma Bank executives Philip Cortejos and Abner Macapagal claimed third place and the other tandem in the logjam on 63 namely Ruhan de Kock and Evan Wienand clinched fourth position. The fifth place went to Gary Stobie and David Brudenall on 64.

The skill prizes for longest drive for men and ladies went to Stobie and Liz Kennedy and closest to the pin to Ali Musbah.

Royal Air Maroc Country Manager Noureddine Ezzairi with Shiraz Mahmoud Khan of Royal Air Maroc Sales Department, attended the prize distribution ceremony along with Dirab Golf Committee Chairman Tariq Javed.

With 38 golf courses across Morocco Ezzairi said Royal Air Maroc will soon offer golf packages for interested individuals in the Kingdom as part of the country's golf tourism promotion.
