JEDDAH: Friends United edged out Gladiators 5-4 via the shootout in a thrilling final to win the International Indian School Jeddah Alumni Association Football League title.

Both teams failed to score during stipulated and extra time.

Ten teams took part in the league, which ran over a period of two months. Falcons got the better of ASTECH to bag third place.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Asim Zeeshan Khan, president of IISJ Alumni Association briefed the audience about the concept of IFL and thanked all teams, which took part.

He also thanked the referees, Waleed Naser Shamlan, Nader Hameed and Abu Liya.

He expressed gratitude to the main sponsor Strategic Management Solutions (SMS), which came forward to support IFL.

Friends United led by Fahad Abdul Basith received the winner’s trophy while Gladiators received the runner-up trophy and medals from C.P. Joy, head master of IISJ Open School Facility and IISJAA coordinator.

Wolverine captain Sohail received the most Inspirational Team award. Arabian Falcons captain Suhail Ansari received the Spirit of the Game award on behalf of his team, for setting an example to other in terms of honesty. Never United received the Best Kit award, which was handed over to captain Umair Jamal. Haveli’s Waheeb Khateeb won the best All Rounder’s award.

Fastest Goal award was given to the Nikhil from Jeddah United, who scored within the first 10 seconds after kickoff. Never United won the Fair Play award received by captain Adnan Saiyed.

Tasharuf Abu Bakr from Friends United team received the Best Goalkeeper trophy for his outstanding performance. Golden Boot award was awarded to Olayan from Catalonia who scored 13 goals. Ram Narayan Iyer, executive editor of Saudi Gazette, handed over the second runner trophy and medals to team Catalonia. AZTECH was awarded consolation for making it to the semifinals.

The event was organized and managed by the committee comprising of Asim Zeeshan, Syed M. Aziz, Ali Siddiqui, Abdul Rahman M. Baig, Tanweer Siddiqui, Atif Khan and Fareed Sardar Khan.
