For the second time this year, Graham Gunn and David Treadgold won a Texas Scramble format competition as they shot a net score of 60 in the 1st Annual Birst Middle East Open Golf Tournament at Dirab Golf & Country Club on Saturday.

The winning pair, with a 7 handicap, won by two shots from John Morris and Richard Gaas who put together a 62 from a gross score of 71 and handicap of 9. Morris and Gaas played off 9 handicap.

The Filipino father-and-son tandem of Resty and Christer Rem Sibug eagled the par-5 13 after Resty’s second shot landed within two feet of the cup but rued a dropped shot on 16 as they settled for third place on 63. Putting birdie on all but one hole but converting only three of them, Resty and Rem, with a 5 handicap, posted a gross 68 on a cool windless day.

British Arshad Mahmood and Indian Anjum Mullah, with an 8 handicap, took the fourth position on 64 while the Pakistani pair of Mujib Minhas and Tariq Sardar rounded out the first five winners on 65 via the countback.

Winner of the seventh round of the 2013 Xerox Corporate Golf Challenge at Dirab in May, Gunn, a South African, and Treadgold assembled a gross total of 67 on nines of 33-34.

Bogeys on 1 and 18 were the only blot in an otherwise immaculate round for Gunn and Treadgold who holed four birdies on the front nine and a further three coming home in the 2-ball Texas Scramble event that attracted 110 players and 55 teams.

Starting at the 7th hole, Morris and his long-hitting Filipino partner jumpstarted their round with a birdie on 14 and, after a bogey on 17, shot on eagle two on 18 for a backnine score of 34.

They had 37 on the front side.

The awards for men’s and ladies longest drive went to Ronny Lidman and Susan Tessier and closest to the pin to Jose Vigil.

Birst, a business intelligence and analytics company with headquarters in San Francisco, California, is the latest in a line of sponsors to team with DGGC and use golf as a platform to promote corporate awareness.

American Brad Peters, CEO of Birst, and Middle East Managing Director Rabie Fares handed out prizes of golf merchandise to the winners along with golf course owner Khaled Abunayyan and Dirab Golf Committee Chair Tariq Javed.

This is the last event of 2013.
