ROME: Second-place Inter Milan needed an 85th-minute equalizer from Esteban Cambiasso to secure a 1-1 draw at home with Genoa on Saturday in its final match before Serie A’s holiday break.

Cambiasso headed in eight minutes after Italy under-21 striker Ciro Immobile had given Genoa the lead at the San Siro after dribbling past defender Andrea Ranocchia.

Inter had a chance to win in the 90th but Marko Livaja hit the post from close range.

Inter enters the break nine points behind Juventus, which beat Cagliari 3-1 Friday.

Later, third-place Lazio visits Sampdoria, which plays its first match under new coach Delio Rossi, and fourth-place Fiorentina is at Palermo.

Fifth-place Napoli, which was deducted two points Tuesday for match-fixing, visits Siena looking to end a four-match losing streak in all competitions.

In the late match, AC Milan takes a four-match league winning run to Roma.

Genoa goalkeeper Sebastien Frey made a difficult save on Inter forward Rodrigo Palacio in the 53rd, and Palacio also failed to find the target in the 47th.

Genoa forward Marco Borriello sat out amid a feud with club management.

The Italian league resumes the weekend of Jan. 5-6.
