After D’ Barkads, JP Gilas Striker took its turn to underline credentials by winning Team of the Week honors during the second week of the FTBJ-ICBL 34th Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.

Using a fast start, JP Gilas was far and away the best team during the session in this young Friday afternoon five-man team league event with 44 points.

Five points adrift was Lucky Strike which tallied 39 followed by defending champion Alliance in Motion Global on 37 and Lance & 3rdy 32, while half a point separated Purefoods Hotdog 29.5 and Pin Crushers 29.

Hidada Ltd. returned 25.5 points with Sky Freight Forwarders on 23 and first week honoree D’ Barkads on 20. D’ Frontiers and GM Pin Pals brought up the rear on 18 and 11.

Lou Punzalan made it a Gilas double when she claimed the ladies Bowler of the Week plum on 684 on scratch lines of 178, 151 and 190.

Rene Punzalan and Jeanette Cerbito followed the lead of Lou with solid rounds of 633 and 617. Rey Beltran on 575 was the other player to go the distance at Gilas, which never looked back after winning the first game. The team also owned the top overall output on 3,073 pinfalls to put the proverbial icing on the victory cake.

The other scorers at Gilas were Zaldy Bacero on 207-209 and Paolo Allego 155.

Along with opening week of 33 points Gilas shot to the early lead in the competition on 77 points with Alliance only a point behind in second place in the team standings.

Randy Mata was the men’s Bowler of the Week on 683 as he assumed the old familiar role at the helm of Alliance which except for a few changes retained the lineup from the last conference. Merlen Pamintuan and Michelle Mata added 566 and 533, Bonnie Garcia had 604, Cris Villavelez 169-170 and Danny Pamintuan 194.

Lucky Strike had its total built mainly around the duo of Rudy Valenzuela and Ruben Grino who rolled 627 and 607 to go with the 569 and 562 from distaff pair of Nurissa Ramos and Matet Cavite, 187-149 from Archie Santos and 234 from Danny Bautista.

FTBJ Ramadan Goodwill Games

Meantime, the FTBJ (Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah) organized the Ramadan Goodwill Games for its members at the Jeddah Lanes during the Eid El Fitr holidays.

Winning the team event was the quintet of Goying Salazar, Rene Santiago, Atoi Cruz, Babes Tiongson and Tess Marasigan who combined for total pinfalls of 2,838. Second place went to the team of Danny Bautista, Rudy Valenzuela, Archie Santos, Nurissa Ramos and Matet Cavite on 2,765, third place to Cris Villavelez, Bonnie Garcia, Danny Pamintuan, Merlen Pamintuan and Luz Pagaran on 2,702 and fourth place to Nonie Yap, Amro Al Amri, Nanding Siasoco, Pinky Acato and Grace Siasoco on 2,676.

Villavelez, Garcia and Pamintuan carded total pinfalls of 1,930 to win the men’s trio title, with Nonie Yap, Amro Al Amri and Nanding Siasoco in second place 1,827, Nick Gozun, Joel Nidoy and Igna Salgado third on 1,771 and Salazar, Santiago and Cruz fourth 1,730.

Aisah Silabay and Len Len Berina claimed the ladies doubles crown on 1,132. May Lourdes-Charrie Guzman took second position on 1,129 while Ramos-Cavite and Marie Gumpal-Malou Nidoy finished third and fourth on 1,101 and 1,088.

Cruz added the men’s singles title to the team event on 831 to become the only double winner in the event. Yap was second on 814, Santos third on 803 and Salazar fourth on 797.

The event winners received cash prize and gift pack donated by Faraj Al Malki Trading. FTBJ Adviser Emy de Guzman handed out prizes to the winners.
