RIYADH: Burj Rafal Hotel Kempinski has crossed the magic number of 5 for qualifying and along with defending champion InterContinental Riyadh Hotel became the early semifinalists in the 29th Annual Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball Tournament 2016.
A young team, Kempinski raised its record to 6-1 with a game in hand, its latest win coming against Novotel 95-57 last Wednesday to close its fourth week campaign that saw Kempinski win against strong team Vivienda 76-60 and Al Qasr Holiday Inn 92-54.
Kempinski’s only loss, 77-71, on Oct. 12 was against host InterCon, which kept its unbeaten record at 6-0 with 2 games in hand, but not after being made to think by Vivienda in a thrilling game last Sunday.
That match ended 83-82 to InterCon boys who in all likelihood are set to finish the eliminations with a perfect 8-0 as their remaining two games are against league tailenders Al Qasr and Novotel .
Meydan Holiday Inn and Vivienda are fighting for the last two semifinal berths with Marriott at 3-3 given an outside chance to make it. Meydan is in third place in the team standings at 4-2 with two games in hand and Vivienda at 4-3.
A once Inter-Hotels power, Sheraton is struggling at 3-4 with a slim chance at making the final four.
Sheraton on Wednesday got past Meydan 79-77 while Vivienda overpowered Novotel in the second game.
In other results on the fourth week, Courtyard had a split, edging Sheraton 72-71 last Friday but losing against Meydan 80-64 last Sunday.
