JEDDAH: MC Hammer bowled steady on the way to its first Team of the Week award during the sixth session in the OSN-FTBJ 50th Open Conference bowling tournament at the Bowling City here.

Looking to recover after a heartbreaking campaign in the last conference where it lost the championship match as the top-seeded team to Al-Murjana, MC Hammer posted the top tally of 42 points.

A surprise second on the day was bottom team GBI-TBBGI, which returned 37.5 points with Habagat on 33 points and BCT-Lutong Pinoy on 32.5.

D’ Barkads were half a point back on 32 followed by Red Dragons 28, Alfa Moe Yasser 26 and Al Murjana 25. Masaken compiled 21 points, league-leading Sky Freight-OSN and Bank AlJazira Fawri tied on 13 while Xtreme-Taurus crashed back to earth after winning the Team of the Week accolade in the last outing to finish the night’s race dead last on 9 points.

Dylan Ilagan made it a Hammer double when he claimed the Bowler of the Week plum after shooting the high series of 667 on lines of 210, 205 and 216.

Unlike the rest of the contenders for honors with an up-and-down game MC Hammer was consistent all night long. D’ Barkards, Murjana and Red Dragons each won a game but that was just about it while Hammer only took overall output but went second-second-fifth in the three games.

Rene Punzalan was chief in support of Ilagan on 615 with Zaldy Bacero and Frank Afurong likewise solid on 596 and 572. Ed Botardo added 174-154 and Melvin Lising 189 for Hammer.

GBI-TBBGI enjoyed its best showing yet in the tournament thanks to the quartet of Cesar Sacramed 607, Tic Tibayan 603, Ahmed Sindi 573 and Christopher Sayson. Alex Duma contributed 155-184 and Fadi Al Haj 180.

Habagat used a six-man rotation led by Edris Mangoda on 608. Jun De Dios came through with 605, Rommel Cagampang had 595, Edu Toledo 512, Manny Tibay 163-129 and George Mangaliman 188.

Lutong Pinoy kept the faith in the quintet of Majid Aslani, Igna Salgado, Paul antiporda, Ed Sardiña and Nezar Al Hamwe who rolled 629, 611, 560, 532 and 503 in that order.

D’ Barkads also used a single set of five players with Amro Al Amri on 631, Leo Edejer 616, Ladio Gonzales 552, Daryl Loquias 546 and Romy Bunagan 514.
