The third and final 10k race of the Riyadh Road Runners 2012-2013 season took place recently at Salwa Garden Village.

Over 70 runners and spectators, including 15 newcomers, turned up to participate in the event. Race conditions were perfect for the mid-March competition with almost no wind and very reasonable temperatures throughout.

Gary McGregor led the race, which consisted of 4-2.5km laps, from the start, but had Gerd Muetze and Paul Farrell breathing down his neck for the first two laps before slowly widening his lead and finishing almost two minutes ahead of the 2nd place finisher.

Gary finished with a time of 40:36. He was followed by Gerd who finished in 32:42. Paul maintained his pace to take third place with a time of 42:52.

In the Veterans division (age 40-49), Danny Maggs took first place, completing the course in 47:30. Mohammad Fostoc and Dragan Petkovski took 2nd and 3rd place respectively with times of 52:56 and 57:00.

The Masters division (age 50-59) was led by Franck Sigismondi who ran the 5km in 49:00. He was followed by Michael Halliwell in second place with a time of 50:18 and Bill Burgess in third place with a time of 52:48.

Matti Alto once again won the Seniors division (60+) for the men. He finished with a time of 50:12. Trailing behind him in 2nd place was Paul McParland in 52:24 and Erich Steinbock in 3rd place with a time of 53:31.

The women’s Open division was won by Adriana Anderson who was competing in only her second event of the season. She finished with a time of 48:53. Following her in second place was Liz Rourke in 51:20.

Margo Benning brought home 3rd place overall and was 1st in the Masters division with a time of 56:45.

Judith Steinbock took 1st place in the women’s Seniors division with a time of 1:00:08. The final race of the 2012-2013 season will be a 5k prediction run. It will take place today at Kingdom compound. For more information, visit the Riyadh Road Runners website at: www.riyadhroadrunners.com
