KUALA LUMPUR: Top-ranked Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia was even sharper in beating Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark for the second time in two days to reach the final in the World Superseries Finals on Saturday.

Chong Wei beat Jorgensen 21-14, 21-16, a day after winning their group match 23-21, 24-22 when both had already qualified for the semifinals.

With a place in the final at stake, Chong Wei said he was more focused. However, he had a brief scare when he let an 11-3 lead in the second game slip to 14-11.

Chong Wei is attempting to regain the title he won in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Chen Long of China, the titleholder, beat Chong Wei in three superseries finals this year but didn't qualify for the Finals.

The only man among the eight qualifiers who did beat Chong Wei recently, Kenichi Tago of Japan, lost to Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia 21-14, 19-21, 21-5 in 65 minutes.

In women's singles, top-ranked Li Xuerui of China will defend her title against surprise finalist Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan, who knocked out top qualifier Wang Shixian of China 15-21, 21-19, 22-20, saving three match points in the last game.

Tai qualified for the Finals only because of the rule restricting nations to two entries, so she went instead of Wang Yihan of China, a winner of three superseries titles this year. Tai trailed 20-17 in the last game and won the last five points.

Li won 12 of the last 13 points in beating Bae Yeon-ju of South Korea 21-15, 21-9.
