NEW YORK: Adam Rosales hit a two-run homer off Chris Capuano that bounced off the top of the left-field wall as the Texas Rangers sent the New York Yankees to their 10th loss in 11 games with a 5-2 victory Sunday.

Yovani Gallardo won for the second time since mid-April, and Prince Fielder had three hits and two RBIs for the Rangers, who swept the three-game series and extended a winning streak to five for the first time since September.

Texas then headed to Cleveland, where Josh Hamilton is to start in left on Monday. The 2010 American League MVP, who has seen sidetracked by drug and alcohol problems plus shoulder surgery, was acquired from the Angels on April 27 and will be making his first appearance for the Rangers since 2012.

New York held a pregame ceremony to retire Bernie Williams’ No. 51 and unveil a plaque in his honor in Monument Park, and then had another night of pitching and defensive struggles. The Yankees have lost six straight in a single season for the first time since May 11-16, 2011, and have 10 defeats in an 11-game span for the first time since May 23 to June 3, 1995, according to STATS.

The Padres had totaled just three runs in losing four straight games. Upton hit a slam in the first inning before Carlos Frias recorded an out and Will Middlebrooks later homered to help stake Shields (6-0) to a 9-0 lead through three.

The All-Star right-hander became the first Padres starter to win his first six decisions since 1985, when Andy Hawkins began 11-0.

Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer pitched into the eighth inning as the Indians extended their winning streak to six games with a 5-2 victory over slumping Cincinnati Reds.

Cincinnati has dropped eight in a row, its longest losing streak since 2009. The Reds have been outscored 54-19 during the streak that has dropped them to a season-worst seven games under .500 at 18-25.

The Pittsburgh Pirates trounced the New York Mets 9-1 for a three-game sweep after Francisco Liriano struck out 12 batters, while Bryce Harper drove in two runs and Gio Gonzalez outpitched Aaron Harang as the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 for its eighth straight series win.
