SAN FRANCISCO: Chris Heston pitched the first no-hitter in Major League Baseball this season in his 13th career start, leading the San Francisco Giants over the New York Mets 5-0 on Tuesday.

The rookie allowed three baserunners, all on hit batters. He also had a two-run single for his first big league RBIs and finished with two more hits than the Mets.

The pitching-rich Giants have thrown a no-hitter in four straight seasons, with Heston following Matt Cain’s perfect game against Houston in 2012, and hitless gems by Tim Lincecum in 2013 and ‘14.

The only other team to accomplish that feat was the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1962-65, according to STATS. Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax pitched all four of those.

Heston (6-4) struck out 11 — six looking — for the World Series champions, and allowed just two balls into the outfield.

As the crowd of 23,155 gave Heston a standing ovation at Citi Field, Giants teammates came out of the dugout and bullpen to mob him.

Also, Jorge De La Rosa tied the Colorado record for wins as he steered the Rockies to a 4-3 win against National League leader St. Louis, Kansas City shut out Minnesota to move above the Twins and into sole possession of top spot in the American League Central, and the New York Yankees extended their winning streak to seven by defeating Washington in an interleague clash.

De La Rosa (3-2) allowed three hits and struck out eight in notching his 72nd career win with the Rockies, tying Aaron Cook’s team record.

With the score at 2-2 in the seventh, Wilin Rosario, pinch hitting in place of De La Rosa, singled off Michael Wacha and, one out later, D.J. LeMahieu doubled to the centerfield wall, scoring Rosario.

Wacha (8-2) matched a career high with 10 strikeouts but took the loss.

Kansas City’s Chris Young held Minnesota scoreless into the seventh inning as the Royals beat the Twins 2-0.

Young (5-2) left after giving up a triple with one out in the seventh. It was the only hit of the game for the slumping Twins batting lineup.

Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka was another pitcher to put in a commanding performance, helping the hosts defeat Washington 6-1.

Making his second appearance after a spell out with arm and wrist injuries, Tanaka (4-1) gave up one run in seven innings, walking none and striking out six.

He outpitched Max Scherzer (6-5), who kept pace with Tanaka until the seventh when a throwing error by shortstop Ian Desmond broke open a 1-1 tie.

Stephen Drew hit two solo home runs for the Yankees, who have their longest winning streak for three years, while the Nationals have lost 9 of 11 and failed in their first visit to Yankee Stadium since 2009.

Los Angeles’ Howie Kendrick snapped a seventh-inning tie with a two-run single as the Dodgers beat Arizona 3-1; their sixth straight win over the Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers have beaten Arizona 13 times out of the past 14 meetings at Dodger Stadium.

Chicago’s Jose Abreu hit a tie-breaking two-run homer to lift the White Sox to a 4-2 win against Houston, which has lost six straight games.

Abreu’s 10th home run of the season broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth.

Former top draft pick Carlos Correa hit his first home run for the Astros.

Detroit’s Anibal Sanchez rediscovered his form and pitched well for 7 2-3 innings to lead the Tigers past the Chicago Cubs 6-0.

Sanchez (4-7) struck out seven and ended a four-start slump that saw Detroit lose all four games while he posted a 7.71 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels arrested a five-game losing skid and beat Tampa Bay 8-2 as Albert Pujols tied Mickey Mantle for 16th place on the all-time MLB home run list.

Pujols’ 536th homer tied the Yankees great. The Angels slugger has eight homers in his past 11 games, and 16 this season. Mike Schmidt is next on the list of home-run hitters with 548.

Atlanta’s Joey Terdoslavich led off the eighth inning with his first career home run as the Braves rallied from a five-run deficit to beat San Diego 6-5.

Toronto increased its winning streak to seven with a dramatic 4-3 win against Miami, with Edwin Encarnacion hitting a two-run home run in the ninth inning.

Baltimore’s Steve Pearce scored in the seventh inning on a wild pitch by Matt Barnes for the only run of the game as the Orioles defeated Boston 1-0.

Texas beat Oakland 2-1, Taylor Jungmann pitched seven efficient innings in his MLB debut to lead Milwaukee over Pittsburgh 4-1, Seattle topped Cleveland 3-2, and Joey Votto hit three homers in a game for the third time in his career — matching Johnny Bench as the only Cincinnati players to do it — as the Reds drubbed Philadelphia 11-2.
