Two league titans fell by the wayside to mark the fourth week action in the 27th Annual Riyadh Inter-Hotels Basketball 2014 tournament at the Riyadh InterContinental Hotel court.

Al Faisaliah ran into a wall of an opposition in the in-form Sheraton Riyadh boys and took an 80-76 beating in a thrilling Friday match.

Faisaliah boys tried their best but Sheraton Riyadh boys simply could not be denied victory with slasher point guard Ziyao Soro, who scored the game’s first 3 points to win a cash prize, power rebounder Erano “Jhuk” Campo and the high leaping Joseph Abad more than holding their own against the likes of Carlo Hall, Raymund Iñigo and Marvin Casubuan from Faisaliah.

Soro finished the night with 27 points, Abad added 13 and Campo 10 points for Sheraton which romped to its fourth victory.

Sheraton was in control taking a 65-57 lead into the fourth quarter where Faisaliah managed to get within three points before Sheraton held on to victory.

Friday’s second game was another reversal where the rejuvenated Riyadh Marriott turned back fancied Ritz Carlton 52-50.

The veteran Ed Manansala showed flashes of his old brilliance and with assist from power rebounder rookie Eric Dalangin, Victor Cesicar, JR Gallardo and Carlo Tolengco stunned Ritz Carlton which was without big man Chowking Yee.

Monday, action continued with Marvin Magnaye’s Four Points by Sheraton Khaldia Hotels picking up its first win against Novotel of Mohammed Hameen 55-49.

The Four Points trio of Alvin Callanta, Jonathan Nacua, Jerry Frivaldo with support from Michael Yagong made the win possible.

And Riyadh Marriott carried the momentum of the big win over Ritz Carlton by taking down defending champion Riyadh InterCon 69-63.

InterCon had led in the first three quarters but was unable to stop the aggressiveness of Riyadh Marriott boasting the magnificent five of Erick Dalangin, Carlo Tolengco, Victor Cesicar, Ronnel Baldevia and JR Gallardo with support of Nash Maraato and Manansala.

The victory, its fourth, guaranteed Marriott the fourth semis spot to a long silence since winning the last of its six championship crowns in 2005.

The tournament for the benefit of the children of UNICEF is sponsored by InterContinental Hotel Riyadh and hosted by Sheraton Riyadh Hotel & Towers.
