JEDDAH: After a one-year break, Smash Arabia Badminton Club returns to the community sports scene when it hosts one of the biggest tournaments in this side of badminton town.

With 52 teams in the fold, the event dubbed 6th Ultimate Badminton Challenge 2015: The Battle for Badminton Supremacy kicks off Wednesday at the 7th floor of Olympia Badminton Courts of Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital here. Smash Arabia Badminton Club last organized a tournament of this magnitude in November 2013.

NCB QuickPay is the major sponsor of the three-day tournament to coincide with the Haj holidays. The other sponsors are BDO Remit, ABS-CBN E-money Plus, myREMIT-one, Salam Health Care, Mobil1, NEMER, Pepsi, Avon, WeSport, Mosaid Travel & Tourism, SUBWAY and Sunbutta Shuttlecocks & Apparels.

The participating teams are represented by players from the Kingdom’s western, central and eastern regions as well as from Jordan and Syria.

The traditional parade of teams in their resplendent uniforms will start at exactly 1 p.m.

Smash Arabia – Jeddah is arguably the No. 1 badminton club in the Kingdom which has been in the forefront of promoting the sport in the country. It is headed and founded by Chairman Bobby Fernandez Pillado. With Pillado at the helm of the group are Vice Chairman Grace Villanueva, Secretary Abigail Asiatico, Treasurer Joseff Santiago, Team Manager Wilson Maata, Program Committee Norie Bundoc, Board Member (Membership) Mark Villanueva and Dindo Morada , Board Member (Technical Committee) – Christopher Hernandez, Alvin Cornejo, Roland Santos and Romy Capili, Jameel Argonza (Head of umpires and linesmen) and Supervising Head – Shah Rizvie Tajudeen and Nathaniel Andrade, Logistics Committee – Noel Ramos, Gerry Jancinal and Nolan “Batuti” Hormillosa, Food Committee, Malou Andrade, Sally Obras and Lynne Boquerente.
