JEDDAH: The Samahang Pinoy Tennis Club of Jeddah is all set for its seasonal summer tennis tournament this year at the sports complex of King Abdulaziz University. It starts Friday and will run through Sept. 15.
Under the theme “Beat the Heat,” 38 SPTC member-players entered the tournament and were grouped into 2 teams namely Team White and Team Black. Each team is composed of 1 doubles in players’ Category Legend, another 1 doubles in Category B2+, 3 doubles in CategoryB2, 4 doubles in C category, and 1 more player in Category C singles.
Tournament rules require the 2 teams to battle it out in 3 complete team matches involving separate matchups for each of the 5 five categories. The team that wins 2 of the 3 complete group matches shall win the tournament. Each set, or category match-up, shall be played in 6 standard games to end at sudden-death after scoring the 2nd (second) deuce. The team that wins 3 of the 5 sets shall own victory over the corresponding contested team match-up.
Team White is captained by Marlon Pagsanjan and Team Black by Waymor Carmelotes.
The organizers are led by the SPTC chairman, Ariel Domingo , and Waymor Carmelotes as tournament director with the support of Roy Timtiman (club vice-chairman for Internal Affairs), Mario Betorio (vice-chairman for External Affairs), Jun Tomas (vice-chairman for Membership Development); Nasser Cayquep (secretary), JM Bravo (treasurer), Gilbert Gochuico (auditor), Mashur Jamiri (Press Relation director), Vic Rebong (business manager);
Technical Committee: Oca Lovitos (committee chairman), Nilo Gamba, Zaldy Gabriel, Eman Usman, Fernan Roxas, and Yusuf Adriatico
Advisers are: Cesar Quilenderino, Pol Fernandez, Gary Bautro, and Marlon Pagsanjan.
