KARACHI: Pakistani stocks ended higher, with the benchmark 100-share index of the Karachi Stock Exchange closing up 0.56 percent, or 177.38 points, at 32,131.28.

More than 15 mid-cap stocks saw their prices hitting the upper limit.

Engro Corp. saw higher volume due to institutional buying, while Engro Fertilizer closed 5 percent up on hope it will get more gas next year. Pioneer Cement Ltd. ended up 3.75 percent at 86 rupees.

Samar Iqbal, a dealer with Topline Securities, said Pakistan was among the top performers in 2014.

The rupee ended higher at 100.50/100.55 against the dollar, compared with the previous close of 100.60/100.65.

Overnight rates in the money market rose to 9.50 percent from Tuesday’s close of 7.50 percent.
