RIYADH: The Saudi-Turkmenistan Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation discussed measures to promote closer contacts and further expand bilateral trade and investment at its meeting.

A Saudi delegation, led by Minister of Commerce and Industry Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, attended the fourth session of the Saudi-Turkmenistan Joint Committee in Ashgabat on Thursday, where the two sides expressed support for enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The two sides expressed their determination to intensify the business partnership, sources at the Ministry of Commerce here said on Friday.

During the meeting, the delegates from both sides emphasized the need for coordinating efforts with a view to expanding the volume of bilateral trade. They also wanted new investment projects to be implemented to bolster bilateral business and investment ties.

The participating delegates expressed support for creating closer contacts between the Saudi Export Development Authority and the Turkmenistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The delegates pointed out the strong economic positions of the two countries in the fields of energy and oil industries, with Turkmenistan's delegates welcoming cooperation from the Kingdom, the region’s largest manufacturer in related industries.

Transportation and communication were among the sectors discussed as another important segment for bolstering partnership between the two countries.

The two sides put forward proposals for exchanging experience in agricultural production management.
