Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) gave a presentation about its participation in launching Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) in the Kingdom at the IPv6 National Forum organized by CITC in Riyadh recently.

Mobily showcased the benefits of implementing IPv6 as a first Saudi operator, which allows the company to filter the data, improve privacy and information protection, and enhance various parts of its infrastructure such as domain name system (DNS) and gateways.

Mobily has been introducing the IPv6 services to national operators, business customers, and regional operators in many countries such as Kuwait and Jordan.

Mobily states that its IPv6 services meet all needs that support accelerating transition to (IPv6) in the Kingdom. The company provides IPv6 addresses for free to business customers; those seeking this service can get the new addresses instantly without any additional cost.

Additionally, Mobily introduces other consultation services to business customers related to planning the transition from the current internet protocol version to IPv6, which enhances the smooth and effective transition, and support technology development in the Kingdom.

This transition helps to offer new opportunities for business customers and ICT such as network expansion, integrated security for information network, improve mobile telecom service support and facilitate managing addresses of the new networks.

These factors make IPv6 is a crucial element in the development and growth of telecom sector in the next few years.

Mobily claims to have the leadership in launching the IPv6 services as it was the first operator to implement this advance technology in 2009 and the company was the first operator to implement the needed modifications for changing from IPv64 to IPv6.

IPv6 is considered to be a huge step forward in the Internet, especially as the the devices connected to the Internet are increasing.
