The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) conducted a mock emergency test of an airplane that caught on fire while landing at Prince Mohammed bin Abdul-Aziz International Airport in Madinah.
All government agencies and the airport operator took part in the operation to test the emergency measures.
A number of support service agencies — such as traffic department, police, Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health — contributed to the successful outcome of this mock trial.
The mock emergency test stimulate a scenario where the control tower receives an emergency call from the captain of an arriving airplane with 70 passengers onboard, informing them that there is a fire in the kitchen and a request for an emergency landing was made.
As soon as the call was received, the airport went into an emergency status, all relevant agencies went into action.
The mock operation was performed successfully and the team that participated in the operation managed to perform their functions efficiently and in accordance with safety procedures adopted internationally.
The passengers were evacuated and moved to a safe area at the airport, and the fire was put out.
