JEDDAH: The Saudi stock market saw a significant setback on Sunday, passing through a lean session of 0.70 percent.

The benchmark Tadawul All-Share Index wavering along the break-even line abruptly fell to 9,688.69, down 68.4 points for the entire session. Large cap stocks performed worst, the GulfBase said in its market commentary.

Top ten heavyweights finished to the downside, where Al-Jabal Omar Development Co. dipping by 2.52 percent, Saudi Arabian Mining Co. 1.58 percent and SABB 1.2 percent.

Kingdom Holding, however, turned green with an increment of 2.08 percent.

Only Transport and Media witnessed a positive change among sectoral indices, gaining 0.9 percent and 0.6 percent respectively.

Remaining 13 sectors pared an aggregate of 1,213 points.

Real Estate Development sector recorded the biggest losses, going down by two percent but still closing above 8,000 points-level.

Industrial Investment and Tourism sectors followed it, declining 1.88 percent and 1.36 percent respectively.

Market breadth with advance-decline ratio of 0.28:1 remained extremely weak.

Saudi Arabian Refineries Co. (SARCO) suffered worst of all Saudi companies, slipping 4.96 percent for the day to SR 64.49.

It was fifth consecutive decline of Al-Babtain Power & Telecommunication Co. on Sunday, down 2.77 percent.

On the other positive side, Saudi Land Transport Co. (MUBARRAD) turned in a splendid performance, soaring up 8.85 percent for the day. Share price of MUBARRAD climbed to a fresh two-year high of SR73. The Saudia Dairy and Foodstuff Co. also hit a new 2-year high of SR143, up 2.13 percent.

Market activity was 6-to-7 percent high when compared with previous level. Roughly 193 million shares worth SR6.6 billion changed hands on the Saudi stock market.
