RIYADH: Sales of the listed retail companies dropped by 9 percent in the first quarter of the current year to SR9 billion compared to SR9.8 billion in the last quarter of 2015, local media said.

Net profits of the retail companies, meanwhile, dropped by 35 percent to hit SR427 million by the end of the first quarter compared to SR 658 million in the last quarter of 2015, Al-Hayat daily said.

The sector comprises 16 listed companies whose market capitalization is worth SR60.3 billion, or 4 percent of the market value of the capital market. Their capitals stood at SR920.4 million, the report said.

Abdullah Othaim Markets topped the list of retail firms in terms of the sales growth by registering 18.4 percent of the total sector’s sales to SR1.64 billion in Q1, 2016, compared to SR1.55 billion in Q4, 2015, or an increase of 6 percent.

However, its net profits dropped by 3.8 percent to SR47 million compared to SR48.89 million, the report added.

Sales of Fawaz Abdulaziz Alhokair & Co. registered the second biggest sales growth to reach SR1.54 billion, or 17.3 percent of total sales, in Q1 compared to SR2.2 billion in Q4, 2015. Its net profits dropped by 98.4 percent to SR3.17 million in Q1, compared to SR202 million in Q1, 2015, the report said.

Share of Jarir Marketing to the sector’s total growth stood at 16 percent, or SR1.42 billion in Q1 2016, compared to SR1.52 billion in Q4, 2015, or a drop of 7 percent.

Likewise, its net profits dropped by 29.5 percent to SR174.1 million compared to SR247 million in the comparable periods, the report said.

The United Electronics Co. (eXtra) registered the fifth biggest sales at SR742 million in Q1, 2016, or 8.34 percent of the total sales, compared to SR1.27 billion in Q4, 2015. It registered a loss of SR44.84 million compared to profits of SR9.1 million in Q4, 2015.

Sales of the Saudi Marketing Company (FARM Superstores) marginally grew by 0.48 percent to SR482 million in Q1, 2016, compared to SR480 in Q4, 2015. Its profits increased by 31.4 percent to SR25.4 million compared to SR19.3 million in Q4, 2015, the report said.

Other retail companies registered varying results in Q1, 2016, compared to Q4, 2015, are as follows: Sales of Saudi-German Hospital stood at SR422 million compared to SR419 million (+0.68 percent) while its profits stood at SR105.2 million compared to SR102.3 million (+2.8 percent), Dallah Health Services posted net profits of SR58.3 million compared to SR55 million (+ 7 percent), profits of Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Co. stood at SR71.1 million compared to SR54 million (+32.2 percent), and profits of Al-Hamadi Development and Investment Co. stood at SR 21.54 million compared to SR 36 million (- 39.7 percent), the report said.
