Samsung CandT Corporation has awarded a contract to Yokogawa Electric Corporation to supply control systems for the Rabigh 2 combined cycle power plant (CCGT), being constructed in Rabigh on the Red Sea coast. The plant would feature three 700 MW combined cycle power units with gas turbines, having a total capacity of 2,100 MW.

Construction of the plant is being carried out for Al Mourjan for Electricity Production Company, wherein the Saudi Electricity Company holds 50 percent stake and a consortium comprising of Samsung CandT Corporation and ACWA Power International, an independent power producer holding 50 percent. The plant would enter into operations in June 2017.

Yokogawa will be responsible to deliver a CENTUMR VP integrated production control system to monitor and operate all plant facilities, including the gas turbines, exhaust-heat-recovery boilers, and steam turbines, and for the control of the exhaust-heat-recovery boilers.

Additionally, the company will be accountable for engineering, and should also support installation, commissioning, and operator training. Delivery of this system is scheduled by the middle of next year.
