Jarir Bookstore, claimed to be the largest retailer of books and consumer electronics in the Kingdom, will host an interschool competition for all the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)-affiliated schools in Saudi Arabia.
The contest is being organized across the Kingdom, Mahaii Ali Albuhairi, brand marketing manager, Jarir Bookstore told Arab News on Monday.
The event is named as NRK-Jarir Samasya 2015-Saudi Arabia. The NRK, an Indian social group in Riyadh, is the partner for the event.
The preliminary rounds covering the schools in the Eastern, Western and Central provinces will kick off on Nov. 6 simultaneously in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, and top two teams from each region will move to the final event in Riyadh, which is scheduled to be held at the Aalia International School in Riyadh on Nov. 13.
The first three winners will be given cash prizes of SR10,000, SR5,000 and SR 2,000, respectively. There will be consolation prizes as well for all the remaining finalists.
"It is a unique opportunity for students of the CBSE-affiliated schools in the Kingdom to gauge their awareness in science, technology, art, culture and general awareness, and emerge winners," he added.
This event is also designed to introduce these students to the competitive spirit and intended to instill interest in the minds of the children about the advancements in general awareness and to augment their intellectual abilities.
Started in 1970, Jarir has 39 stores across the Kingdom and the rest of the GCC. Jarir has also published 300 titles mainly in English.
Balachandaran Nair of NRK said Indians are the largest expatriate community with an estimated 200,000 students studying in various CBSE affiliated schools across the Kingdom.
Major Chandrakant, who conducts quiz programs in the IIT’s and IIMs across India, will be the quiz master for the NRK-Jarir’s Samasya-2015.
