The “Mom Protect Me” awareness campaign, aimed at saving the lives of premature infants, was inaugurated at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh earlier this month.

The campaign, launched across the Kingdom, aims to raise public awareness about the vulnerability of prematurely born infants and the health risks they face. The campaign seeks to curb, and eventually reduce, the increasing premature birth rates across Saudi Arabia by educating families on the importance of healthy living for pregnant mothers, as well as the mindful and adequate care of infants born before full term.

Princess Sara bint Sultan bin Nasser, honorary chairperson of the Saudi Schizophrenia Charity Association, a member of the Diabetic Children’s Association and a supporter of the Disabled Children’s Association, said her patronage of the campaign is part of an ongoing effort to serve the country and its citizens through welfare initiatives and programs that seek to empower Saudi women, helping them become valuable contributors to the different sectors of society.

Speaking during the inauguration, Princess Sara said: “The Almighty blessed me with a premature child, and I can say from experience that it is exhausting, as a parent, to watch your child alone in the neonatal unit. Such an ordeal can cause mothers to often feel isolated, anxious and helpless. Therefore, I would like to stress the importance of providing adequate care for these mothers in the Kingdom, who in turn care for premature children suffering from health problems, which if neglected, could be fatal to their lives.”

The “Mom Protect Me” campaign will be run across shopping centers throughout the country.

Mothers can also benefit from consultations about healthy living, and the importance of daily physical activity, while the whole family can enjoy various sports activities including marathons. Young Saudi artists will also take part by displaying their works at various locations for the duration of the campaign.
